AI Search Visibility for Multi-Location Brands: 1 in 5 Locations Never Appear
This piece was written and published by Birdeye, a company that sells reputation, listings and AI search visibility software. It is included here for its practical insight. Its inclusion does not mean that Healthcare Growth Strategies, its founder, or his employer endorses, recommends, or has a position on Birdeye or its products. Figures drawn from the vendor’s own customer or platform data have not been independently verified.
Brand-level AI visibility scores hide the locations that never show up. In Birdeye’s study of 16,240 location-level ChatGPT scans across 1,762 multi-location brands, 18.6% of locations were invisible in AI answers, and nearly half of brands had a 50-point gap between their best and worst locations. Accuracy was worse than visibility: only 0.6% of locations returned fully accurate information, ChatGPT showed the wrong website for 57% and the wrong phone number for 35%. Only about 7% of location-level AI citations came from the brand’s own site, while directories supplied about 25%. Leaders at Benchmark Mortgage and Wyndham Hotels describe the fix as data ownership: one source of truth for location data, prioritizing high-impact markets, keeping reviews recent, and training local teams.
For DSOs and multi-site groups, a strong brand score can mask offices that AI assistants never recommend or list with the wrong phone number. Treat location data as an operations responsibility with a named owner, and measure AI visibility office by office.
