10 Hospital M&As Finalized in 2026
Becker’s Hospital Review counted 10 hospital mergers and acquisitions finalized in early 2026, many of them divestitures by Prospect Medical Holdings and Community Health Systems. Vanderbilt Health paid $623 million for an 80% interest in Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville and Tennova ER-Sango, adding to the 20% stake it has held since 2021. Hartford HealthCare bought Manchester Memorial Hospital from Prospect for $86.1 million and plans about $225.7 million of investment over three years. Tenor Health Foundation acquired three Pennsylvania hospitals from CHS for $33 million plus a $15 million promissory note as CHS exited the state. Other closings included Prime Healthcare Foundation’s purchase of Central Maine Healthcare, Baptist Memorial’s merger with Arkansas Methodist Medical Center, and UConn Health’s acquisition of Waterbury Hospital.
The list shows where hospital capacity is changing hands: distressed or exiting owners selling to regional systems and newly formed nonprofits. For physician groups, ASCs and other multi-site operators in these markets, new owners often bring capital plans and service-line changes that reshape referral patterns, partnership options and local competition.
